This original piece of art on deep and uneven handmade paper - called Wilderness - by papermaker and lettering artist, Elizabeth Forrest, was brought to us to frame in 2016.
As this is a piece of thick, natural-looking handmade paper, we needed to display it in such a way that its textured edges were visible. So rather than placing a conventional window mount over the top of it, we float mounted it instead. To create extra definition we chose a contrasting Snow White colour for the undermount.
We chose a picture frame moulding painted in varying green and grey tones which perfectly matched the colour of the handmade paper, and carefully fixed the artwork in place, creating bespoke spacers for the inside of the frame in order to prevent the glass from touching the paper (and potentially sticking to it over time).
Museum-grade glass adds the finishing touch to this impressive piece by offering 99% UV protection whilst reducing reflections to less than 1%.
