We, Vallaton Limited, are picture framing specialists based in Chesterfield near J29 M1, and we provide a wide array of framing related services and products.

We have been growing quickly over the last decade, in fact, in 2018/19 we were amongst the top 10% fastest growing businesses in Derbyshire.

What is it like to work here?

It can be busy and hectic, hence we always keep our eyes open for new recruits!

We work to high standards and have high-quality machinery and framing expertise inhouse to help meet those high standards.

Our company is also a pretty high tech venture with our in house advanced software and IT which helps the business run day to day.

We only use quality materials; only use wooden moulding, and do not use plastics.

What skills might we be looking for?
  • In Sales/Customer Services
    • Knowledge of picture framing
    • Good people skills. Friendly, helpful and understanding.
  • In the workshops
    • Experience with picture framing or joinery
    • Ability to safely and effectively use machinery and tools
  • In the Warehouse
    • Organisation skills to keep track of stock
    • Ability to help safely lift and move deliveries and stock
  • In Dispatch
    • Packing and dispatching of parcels for daily courier collection
    • Measuring and cutting bespoke containers and boxes for non-standard sized items
  • IT / Development
    • Object-oriented programming for front-end and back-end website development (inc. PHP, TypeScript, SQL)
    • PC network admin and maintenance

Job Type

Part Time, Fixed Term Contract

  • 20 hours per week, split between Dispatch and sales (with potential for overtime/to become Full Time)
  • Fixed Term Contract lasting 6 months (with potential to become a permanent contract).
Reports to Head of Dispatch & Head of Sales

13:15-17:30 (with a 15 minute unpaid tea break)

Key Duties - Dispatch Role

Quality-check, package and label framing-related orders, within Company target times and to Company standards, liasing with other departments as and when necessary. Orders may include, but are not limited to:

  • Mountboard (various sizes)
  • Glass (various sizes)
  • Mitred lengths of picture frame moulding
  • Picture frame moulding up to 3 metres in length
  • Picture frames (various sizes)
  • Sundries such as spacers and fixings

Cut sheets of cardboard to size using cutting equipment (Fletcher Multi-Material Cutter) and handheld tools such as Stanley knives, in order to create bespoke packaging solutions.

Perform tasks as scheduled by Company software system, ready for daily courier collections.

Use shredding machine to shred surplus cardboard.

Take delivery of picture framing-related materials which arrive throughout the day.

Book picture framing-related materials into stock ensuring that they are checked, and any late/insufficient/incorrect/damaged materials are identified using the Company software system.

Vacuum Dispatch area as and when necessary.

Keep work area tidy and free from clutter, and bins emptied.

Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards.

Adhere to the Company's policies as set out in the Employee Handbook.

Key Duties - Sales Clerk Role

Respond to sales enquiries via telephone and email.

Arrange Customer appointments.

Direct emails and telephone calls/messages to other members of staff as appropriate.

Enter order details on to Company software.

Edit orders on the software system once they've been placed, if necessary.

Take payment for orders.

Book items into stock when necessary, such as moulding samples.

Update customers with any delays to their orders, such as late/insufficient/incorrect/damaged delivery of materials from suppliers or issues which may occur with couriers.

Urgently resolve issues with any customers unsatisfied with their orders by using Company software to 'raise an error'.

Process returns and refunds.

Call customers to let them know their artwork is ready to collect, and ensure its safe handover.

Keep work area tidy and free from clutter, and bins emptied.

Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards.

Adhere to the Company's policies as set out in the Employee Handbook.

Any other reasonable request involving Sales duties and responsibilities.

The successful applicant will be able to:

Skills & Qualifications

GCSE Grade C or above in both English Language and Maths is essential.

Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Experience

Previous experience of either role is not essential as full training will be provided, however the following experience would be beneficial:

  • using handheld tools such as Stanley knives or other cardboard sheet cutting equipment;
  • communicating with customers/general public via email/phone/face-to-face
