This very detailed embroidery of John Donne's poem, The Anniversary, was brought to us to frame in 2023.
We immediately thought of our Colorato collection as it works well with traditional artwork without being too old-fashioned; and many of the profiles are painted in colours reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early twentieth century, which blend very well with the threads in this cross stitch: mustard yellow, olive green, deep blue and deep crimson.
We eventually agreed the olive green looked best, and since we'd decided to close frame the piece i.e. without a window mount, we made sure that we placed a small transparent spacer around the inside of the frame to separate the fabric from the glass.
Once we'd applied cream wax filler - the same colour as the picture frame moulding - to all four mitre joints, and then polished them, the frame's corners were perfect.
Finally we glazed the display with anti-reflective glass - for unparalleled clarity along with 70% UV filter to help prevent fading over time.
