Atkinson Grimshaw - Liverpool Quay by Moonlight - 1887
This is another painting that was commissioned through our sister company, Barton Galleries. Grimshaw was famous for using the low, golden light through fog in his paintings, and this is no exception, so we had to find a suitable frame to compliment these warm tones.
As with all of our oil painting commissions, we make a bespoke stretcher frame to ensure it fit perfectly and secure it in place. Antique oil paintings can sometimes be stretched to uneven shapes, but we do our best to accommodate them into our custom frames.
For this oil painting, the customer chose an ornate swept frame from our Traditional English Range.
These are all handmade to order, so every detail is open to change – from the patterned profile to the finishing colours.
This is the swept profile, finished in a light antique paint with an additional wash to give it the vintage, aged effect. Getting an authentic looking frame is not always easy, but our framers are very experienced in getting the exact finish required, and it is the attention to detail that really makes this range stand out.
