John Atkinson Grimshaw was born on the 6th of September 1836 in Leeds, he was 24 when he left his job as a clerk for the Great Nothern Railway to become a painter.

This picture was an oil painting commission from Barton Galleries - our sister business.

It has a hand-finished fluted moulding which is English made and is a generally high quality frame.
