Oil paintings come in all shapes and sizes, and this particular piece was painted straight onto a wooden board. Traditionally, oil paintings are close framed which means they are stretched or placed straight into the wooden frame. However, as fashions change and people also moving artwork around and cleaning it in different ways, mounts and glass have become a popular addition to oil painting framing.
The glass protects the painting and allows it to be cleaned easily without risking damage to the surface or colours, while the mounts add detail and create a more modern finish.
As the artwork has been painted right up to the edge of the board, we have to be careful when measuring and framing to ensure we didn’t cover up too much with the mount. All of our pictures mounts are cut to order, so we can be creative with shape, size and colour.
The oil painting was carefully placed into a bespoke cut foam board surround to stop it from moving. This is the preferred method for paintings on board as it means that no adhesives have to be used – in line with the standards set by the Fine Art Trade Guild.
Every single bespoke framing project is always finished to the highest possible standard and sealed at the back to prevent any future damage to the artwork.
