Just before Christmas 2024, a lady brought in this railway scene by a Chesterfield-based artist for us to frame ready for the following January, to mark a special occasion with her husband.
The artist, David Charlesworth, began drawing trains before the age of three, and now has over 40 years' experience as a professional artist although his work is not confined to railway subjects, and also includes automobiles, aviation, landscapes, portraits and maritime scenes.
To complement the pencil lines used in the picture, we suggested a light grey square-shaped moulding (w 20mm x d 20mm) from our Touchstone collection, which is made from pine wood covered with a specially laminated foil consisting of three layers; one featuring colour, the second, depth, and the third, texture.
We then chose a white window mount, flecked with grey, which has a black core, to add an extra level of definition to the display.
With valuable pencil drawings, we advise our customers to, if possible, choose specialist glazing. There are several types to choose from, and our customer chose the highest grade - museum - for this special gift. Not only does it provide the maximum UV protection (99%) to prevent the artwork from fading, it also offers the best optical performance by reducing reflections to less than 1%.
Our customer was pleased with the result, as were we!
