This impressive seascape - depicting crashing ocean waves - has been painted in oil across three canvases, intended to be displayed side by side as a triptych.
Rather than having the artworks framed separately and hanging them side by side, our customer chose to have all three fitted in to the same frame with a multi aperture (window) mount in an off-white colour separating each section of the picture.
For the frame, he chose a classic barefaced oak picture moulding which is a great choice of wood for maritime scenes given its naval connection (historically, oak wood was the preferred choice for ships thanks to its strength, durability, and resistance to rot).
Our customer also chose to have his frame glazed - which, although unusual for oil paintings, isn't unheard of - so we used a 40mm deep moulding which would comfortably fit the canvas, mountboard and glass.
Positioning the three windows 20mm apart leaves just enough of a gap to create definition without detracting from the overall picture.
