Here's a vintage set of steel graining combs brought to us for framing which belonged to our customer’s late friend, a painter and decorator, skilled in the technique of woodgraining a.k.a. faux bois.
He would slide the teeth of the combs along a board while it was still wet with paint to imitate the effect of a natural woodgrain.
To remember him, our customer used magnets to mount the combs – deliberately left in their ‘working’ state - on to a sheet of metal.
Using a spacer wide enough to keep the glass from touching the combs, we then framed and glazed them with a black painted picture frame moulding which has a 'wire brushed' finish - 379260 - from our Lancaster collection.
The colours are amazing. What a fantastic way to remember a friend.
