Our customer had these exquisitely detailed silk pictures painted whilst on holiday in India.
By using a blackcore black mount over the top of a blackcore silver mount, alongside a gold picture frame moulding - in keeping with the colours used in the images - we created a display which doesn't distract the viewer from the artwork.
Triptychs can be framed individually or alternatively - and to keep costs down - they can be displayed in one single frame. By creating a window mount with three apertures, each one of the three images still stands alone in its own right, as you can see from this example.
In line with the standards of the Fine Art Trade Guild, of which we are members, we stretched and laced each painting ensuring the lattice of stitches was taut enough to prevent the fabric from sagging, but also loose enough to ensure it stayed flat and didn't pucker. If not done correctly, the fabric will never sit properly under a mount or inside a frame.
Despite being more time-consuming, it also ensures the customer can always remove the silks from the frame should she wish to.
Although some framers use adhesives to simply stick fabric art to an undermount, we don't, as they can easily stain and damage the fabric - as well as fail - over time.
Our Framing Workshop has many years of experience mounting and framing delicate fabrics so you can be sure your artwork is in safe hands. Visit our Showroom in Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District to find out more.
