Our customer travelled all the way from the south of England to bring us this incredible painting on silk which they wanted framing.
The scene is a beautiful depiction of the Monsoon Palace in the Indian city of Udaipur.
In line with the standards of the Fine Art Trade Guild, of which we are members, we stretched and laced the silk ensuring the lattice of stitches was taut enough to prevent the fabric from sagging, but also loose enough to ensure it stayed flat and didn't pucker. If not done correctly, the fabric will never sit properly under a mount or inside a frame.
Despite being more time-consuming, it also ensures the customer can always remove the silk from the frame should she wish to.
Although some framers use adhesives to simply stick fabric art to an undermount, we don't, as they can easily stain and damage the fabric - as well as fail - over time.
We then created a narrow black window mount to give the edges a crisp, neat look, and used a black 'distressed' style moulding for the frame as our customer felt that something too new and contemporary-looking would have jarred with the subject matter.
Our Framing Workshop has many years of experience mounting and framing delicate fabrics so you can be sure your artwork is in safe hands. Visit our Showroom in Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District to find out more.
