Born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1956, Michael Groves was a professional graphic artist and illustrator in the newspaper and magazine industry for more than 35 years, painting a variety of subjects throughout his commercial career.

These days, you'll find him painting 'en plein air' - whenever possible - to experience and capture the transient effects of colour and light directly from nature itself.

Living so close to the Peak District, Michael has a particular interest in landscape painting, but he is also constantly inspired by the coastal scenes of the North Yorkshire Coast.

Watercolours and acrylics are his preferred medium, but he also paints in oils and pastels, focusing on the atmospheric conditions created by the ever-changing sunlight and shadows as they move from season to season.
