Genuine Gold Leaf Frame for Antique Oil Painting

This beautiful antique oil painting was brought to us by a good customer of ours in 2017 as he wanted a period-style frame finished with genuine gold leaf.

Our customer chose a 3" wide Swept frame, decorated with a repeating pattern, from our collection of fully bespoke Traditional English Handmade Frames, and unlike most swept frames, the corners were kept as a solid shape.

Once the decorations had set and dried, every part of the frame was then neatly covered by hand with bright gold leaf.

When it came to fitting the canvas, we were able to protect the edges of this very valuable artwork by using an archival sealing tape on the rebate of the frame. This prevents the oil painting from sticking to the inside of the frame over time (which would otherwise cause irreparable damage to its surface). We also used spring clips to keep the canvas in place rather than nails or strong adhesives which could also be damaging.
