If you are considering having an item framed, you will be offered a choice as to the level of protection you want for the item you are framing as well as options as to how to present it within a frame.
Our picture framers are trained to offer guidance as to the standard of framing you should consider for an item.
Of course aesthetics and making the item look as good as possible is the key part of framing, and we can advise on the choice of frame and mount, but consideration should also be given to the level of protection the item deserves. We work to the following professional standards, Budget , Minimum , Commended , Conservation and Museum
The difference between the standards is basically quality of materials and methods. Often there is only a moderate difference in cost, for example framing an item to a commended level will offer a good level of protection for a relatively small cost over budget standard.
What do we mean by protection? It covers aspects such protecting the item from acids, condensation and damaging UV light.
